Hiking in Winter through Amalfi Coast

Winter is a great time to visit Amalfi Coast: almost no tourists, warm sun and fresh air. Follow us through the small towns and villages and feel the sun on your skin even through the monitor.

If you like the video, here are the tips to get there and follow our paths and views!

How to get there

  • Take a train from Napoli to Salerno or from Napoli to Sorrento. You can find timetables on Trenitalia and SorrentoInsider. Note, that trains might be delayed a bit, so plan the time accordingly.

  • Take a bus from Salerno or Sorrento to Maiori. There are a lot of buses almost every hour between Maiori, Amalfi and other coastal villages. Check the schedule here. Be aware that you could not buy tickets from the driver.

Hiking paths recommendations

We have taken two routes we can recommend:

  • Sentiero degli Dei — from Praiano to Nocelle. This one is longer and if you will start as we have done from Praiano, be ready to climb almost 600 meters before walking along the coast. The views are worth all the steps you have to take :)

  • Sentiero degli Limoni — from Maiori to Minori. This is quite an easy route, but you should be prepared to climb a lot of steps up and then down.

There are hiking paths from Salerno to Sorrento, so you can hike any other part of the coast. For example, we have done during the first day Maiori-Amalfi & Praiano-Positano to walk a little bit more than these two ‘official’ routes.

Where to stay

We stayed in the nice B&B just 2 minutes from Amalfi centre — Amalfi Luxury House. Very nice rooms with excellent breakfast and lemon cake. Our recommendation is to take ‘cake of the day’ as you can choose what you would like to eat every day.

Why in winter

This is the most important part. Do not be afraid to come in winter. We have chosen pre-Christmas week and it was sunny and warm during the day while evenings and nights were quite cold. There are almost no tourists and you can see the places as locals and spend time as a local: sit in the cafe with a cup of coffee, walk around and get lost in the tiny streets. Hiking during this time is perfect: it is warm, but not too warm and even during low season you would not be alone. We met people from India, France and the UK. Do not forget to check the weather and be prepared to be amazed at how beautiful our world is if we step out of the door.
